Ideal Body Weight - What is It?

How many times have we heard from some experts or read in a magazine that the ideal body weight should be such and such depending on the body type and height. There are also different classifications for women, also based on body type and height as well. If you are from a country where people value size as a sign of wealth, then you will definitely have another criteria for measuring or agreeing to what should be the ideal body weight.

Experts would also agree that these charts defining such things as ideal body weight are merely a gauge. They are only there to remind us of what our body weight should be like in order for us to be in good health. If you are starting a weight loss program, you shouldn't concern yourself too much about such thing. It would be more beneficial for you to concentrate on the program and be diligent about what you eat. The results will speak for themselves later as you progress and get closer to your goal.

Another important factor about any programs, including weight loss programs, is to define your goals clearly from the beginning. If you define your goal, such as, you want lose 10 or 15 pounds by Christmas for example, the program will be easier to follow and you get more joy out of it. It is much easier to set small goal that you know you can accomplish than to set big goal with no clear deadlines.

When you set short term goals, you have to follow through in order to see some results. You have to eat properly and eat healthy. Your food choice should be balanced and should fall in the fruits and vegetables, lean meat, fish, dairy and possibly some supplements if required. That doesn't mean you cannot eat your favorite food once in a while, assuming that your favorite food is a bit heavier in calorie. In a way, the ideal body weight is the weight that you want to get near to but in reality, not very many people going on a weight loss program ever reached their ideal body weight. You can make it happen but you have to want it badly enough.

Weight Loss and Diet - The Truth About Artificial Sweeteners Revealed

A recent study has shown that when rats are fed on these sugar substitutes they still gain weight consistently- this indeed has bewildered researchers.

A team of scientists from the Purdue University now in USA believe that a zero calorie sweetener can actually increase the body's craving for extra food. This research has been published in Behavioral Neuroscience a journal stating that some rats fed with sugar consequently had lower lesser appetites. But nutritionists still argue over their theory that low calorie artificial sweeteners are undoubtedly the best and health-friendly as well.

As per the conventional wisdom, artificial sweeteners are the main ingredient of a diet meant to control calories and these can also assist in losing body weight as well as keeping it off totally. But the Purdue University's study has turned the conventional wisdom theory upside down.

While carrying out the research they gave yoghurt to rats some of the yoghurt was sweetened with sugar while for the rest saccharin was used. The rats were divided into two groups and fed and then were supplied with food in abundance. The researchers awaited the result.

It was observed that the mice fed on saccharin or artificial sugar consumed more calories than the ones fed on real sugar. They ate more, gained more fat and weight than their counterparts who were fed with sugar.

Artificial sweeteners are now consumed by people all across the globe and these products have gained tremendous importance over time. As most Americans are on the verge of obesity, they leave no stones unturned to look for convenient methods of weight loss. Exercise might be slightly difficult for them and so they opt for these, thought to be quick and potent weight loss options.

Dieting has been known to be a common weight loss technique, but specialists aver led out this idea. Today people are advised to eat healthy and right and to exercise and shed those oodles of pounds. Most of these diets comprise of artificial sweeteners as sugar is said to very fattening and can also lead to diabetes.

Most of the diabetic patients opt for artificial sweeteners as they are not allowed to consume sugar. But artificial sweeteners are said to be very harmful for health. Though it has been regarded as the most potent weight loss diet supplement, but its effects are being opposed by various researches being conducted these days.

USA allows Saccharin, Aspartame, Acesulfame potassium, Neotame, Sucralose and Cyclamte to be sold in the state.

Studies conducted during the 1970s have shown probable links of saccharin with bladder cancer in rats. This led to the warning label on saccharin: "Use of this product may be hazardous to your health. This product contains saccharin, which is determined to cause cancer in laboratory animals." Consecutive studies on rats have proved time and again that higher doses of saccharin can also aggravate cancer in rats.

So ten it is evident that artificial sweeteners have no impact on weight loss, but might make your body vulnerable to cancer.

"The data clearly indicate that consuming a food sweetened with no-calorie saccharin can lead to greater body-weight gain and adiposity than would consuming the same food sweetened with higher calorie sugar" - was stated in the journal written by the researchers.

Reuters - U.S. auto suppliers said on Thursday the industry was in talks with the U.S. Treasury to secure emergency funding to avoid a wave of bankruptcies and a deeper crisis for cash-strapped automakers.

Weight Loss Struggles - Finding Strength in Weakness

For when I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Cor. 12:10

Today it really feels like I will never have victory over my binge eating, harmony in my relationships or control over my finances. It's hard to connect with my faith. I'm just so tired and frustrated.

Have you ever felt this way? At times like this, it's hard for me to stay positive or remember any of the coping techniques, affirmations or prayers that I know so well... much less do them.

What do you do when you don't even seem to have the energy to use the tools that you know with a certainty will move you to a better place?

Prayer is the last thing I want to do, but I'm so grateful that I had the wherewithal to grab for a favorite book that always turns me around. It's called "Humility" and it's by Andrew Murray. His words are like medicine healing my soul.

The author defines humility as "simply the disposition that prepares the soul for living in trust." Wow!! On page 85 it says, "Place yourself before God in your helplessness; consent to the fact that you are powerless to slay yourself; give yourself in patient and trustful surrender to God. Accept every humiliation; look upon it and every person" (and here I'll add, and every piece of food) "who tries to trouble you as a means of grace to humble you."

He reminds me that in my own flesh, I am powerless to change myself. These "lapses" are meant to bring me to an even stronger need and expectation from God. I am to look upon every one of these dark moments as a way to experience God's grace, as an opportunity to come to the end of myself and to allow the start of God's work in my life.

I pray that during these trying times you also see your inability to do anything on your own, and give your trust to God's ability to strengthen you.

So what are the next steps?

If you're in the midst of binging, then take the focus off yourself and your weakness and put the focus on God -- He promises us that His grace is sufficient. (2 Cor. 12:9)
Every day, remind yourself of your emptiness, and acknowledge your dependence on God.

Home Gym - A Budget Solution For Weight Loss

Can't afford gym membership for weight loss? Here's the solution: get a home gym. There's no traveling, and you can exercise whenever you have a spare moment.

Other members of the family can use the home gym too, and this brings the cost down even more.

Firstly, decide what you want to achieve with your home gym. Do you primarily want to lose weight, or do you want to develop a great body? Of course, you may want to do both.

Let's look at items you may want to include in your home gym.

1. Dumbbells - Start out Light, and Increase the Weight Slowly

Dumbbells come in many different weights. When you're starting out, choose a low weight set. These may be all you need for weight loss. As your strength increases, just increase your repetitions.

Tip: ensure that you get instructions on using your dumbbells. Remember, exercise slowly and mindfully -- keep your mind on what you're doing to avoid injury.

2. A Cardio Machine for Weight Loss

Your dumbbells will increase your muscle mass (more muscles burn more fat) and so will a cardio machine. Elliptical cross trainers are a good choice for cardio machines. They're easy to use, and because they place little stress on your joints, are a good choice for anyone who's overweight.

A stationery bike is also a good choice. As with the elliptical trainer, the bike puts little stress on your joints, so you can avoid injury as you lose weight.

3. A Fitness Ball for Stretching Exercises

A fitness ball is a great addition to any home gym. They're inexpensive, and allow you to target specific muscle groups. You can use your ball for crunches to eliminate belly fat.

Most balls come with a workout DVD, so that you get used to the ball, and can use it safely.

Additional Tips for Weight Loss With Your Home Gym

* Start your exercise routine slowly. Initially, spend just five minutes with each piece of equipment. This is long enough when you're just starting out.

* On busy days, choose just one piece of equipment, and exercise for ten minutes. It takes time to build strength. Keep your workouts short and fun.

* As you get used to the equipment, devise your own routines. Create at least three different routines, so you don't get bored.
