Unlock The Door To Your Weight Loss Psyche - Are You Ready To Lose Weight?

Recently, the FDA gave approval to a weight loss supplement that is sold over the counter. The makers of this supplement inquire as to whether you are "ready." They mean, are you ready to lose weight. This may seem like an odd question, but think about it.

How many times have you told yourself "I know I need to lose weight, drop about 10, 20 lbs." and then just let that thought go? Over 65% of the people in the United States are overweight, so clearly, many people know and want to lose weight, but just never get started.

There are small lifestyle changes that people can make that will help them to lose weight slowly and permanently. If these changes are small, then why don't more people make them? What it really comes down to is the readiness factor.

Here are a variety of things for you to consider to see if you are ready to lose weight.

1. What is your weight loss history?

-Where you ever at an ideal body weight?

-When was the last time you lost weight and kept it off for at least 6 months?

-V.I.P. Question: What was the main reason that you were unable to stick with your last diet?

Was there any specific incident that made you leave that program?

It's very important to look at your past to see what did and did not work for you. You also need to decide whether you have any "triggers" that knock you off of your program.

2. Do you make yourself and your health a priority in your life?

A third of the American population is obese. Obesity leads to very serious health conditions including diabetes, heart attach and stroke. With this in mind, you need to ask yourself how important your health needs are.

Most people, especially working women and mothers have a hard time making their needs a priority over loved ones. However, when you take care of your health, you will be available longer and with more energy then if you don't address your health.

3. Do you secretly fear losing weight?

This may seem like a strange statement, but there are people that hide behind fat in order to avoid intimacy or emotional attachments to other people. You need to be brave enough to confront this if its possible that you fear losing weight and the new life it could give you.

Clearly, weight loss is a complicated subject. If it was easy, everyone would be thin. Take some time and consider your weight loss history, fears and victories. Then find a program that involves a Lifestyle approach for losing weight that will be appropriate for you.
